St Bede’s Catholic Church Parish Mission

St Bede’s Church in Popley is holding a Parish Mission after new priest has settled in. Father Dominic Golding, Parish Priest of two years, has decided that they should consolidate the spiritual growth as well as the physical growth. He proposed that they have a Parish Mission to enable the church to deepen there relationship with God and to set aside time to reflect together. The Mission will be led by the Sion Community based at Brentwood in Essex and takes place over two weeks. 28 January – 12 February.
The first week involves prayer and visiting parishioners. The second week will be filled with a varied programme of activities to enhance and re-examine the church's relationship with God. There should be something for everyone – spiritual events and social ones as well!
The church is a vibrant welcoming community, active in the local and wider area. They invite all to come and join them during this time to share in this very exciting and enriching time.

St Michael's Hospice Woofs and Wellies is back this year giving you the exclusive chance to walk around the Private grounds of the Lord Portsmouth Estate! 2011 saw up to 300 walkers and 90 dogs take part in the Woofs and Wellies Event, taking in the beautiful scenery of the Lord Portsmouth Estate in Farleigh Wallop. There were 3 fabulous routes to choose from, with the 12 mile route being guided by the Basingstoke Ramblers Club. It is hoped that the event will raise up to £8,000 towards the running costs for the Hospice. If you want to take part in this year’s event then brush off your walking boots and sign up to walk around the beautiful sites of Farleigh Wallop. You do not have to have a dog to take part, so sign up now and spend a wonderful afternoon in the Hampshire countryside!

Jubilee Fete

Burghfield Community Sports Association will be holding a fete as part of their jubilee celebrations. It will be held on Monday June 4th and entry is free. There will be many stalls including craft, charity and community. There will also be a chance to have a go at archery and many other games and activities. Taking place at Basingstoke Hockey Club, Down Grange Sports Complex, off Pack Lane, Basingstoke. There’ll be on site parking and camping. Live bands and music. Themed entertainment. And prizes. And of course hockey – to suit all abilities. Yes, it’s all on one site. You can still see all the pitches from the bar. And the beer tent. The site will be clean. There’ll be no cardboard burgers but plenty of bacon butties and meals when you want them. And there will be Jugs a plenty at clubhouse prices.

Big Wheel 18

St Michael's Hospice Big Wheel 18 Bike Ride is one of the Hospice’s biggest annual fundraising events. Last year 1300 cyclists enjoyed one of the four breathtaking routes of 5 miles, 15 miles, 27 miles and a truly testing 51 miles. Each route has refreshment stops with staggered start times between 9am - 10:30am. All four rides start and finish at the Down Grange Sports Complex in Basingstoke, where cyclists and families can enjoy free parking, entertainment and stalls to browse around. Riders can receive an incredibly relaxing free leg massage from our team of Complementary Therapists. Delicious food and drink to suit everyone is also available.

Midnight Walk

St Michael's Hospice Midnight Walk takes place in and around Basingstoke. Last year up to 800 women participated in a fun night walking either 6 miles or 11 miles around the boundaries of Basingstoke. The event hopes to raise an amazing £50,000 towards Hospice funds and with some exciting changes planned they are expecting this year’s event to be even bigger and better than before! This year the event has an exciting new route! So don’t forget to look out for the St Michael’s Midnight Walk event.

Basingstoke Shire Half Marathon

The Basingstoke Shire Half Marathon takes place on Sunday 7th October. Due to overwhelming demand in 2011 they have increased the entry limit and are using a new on line entry system to streamline entries and electronic payment. Last year it filled up by the end of May so they recommend you enter soon. The race course will be the same challenging but picturesque route, with just some minor adjustments to the startline to accommodate more runners.
